Now that Mario can zip across the screen at higher speeds, vault past obstacles, and ensnare his foes with the Portal gun, the classic temporary enhancements of Mario games hold even more possibilities. With it, Mario can reach great heights, accelerate his momentum, avoid deadly obstacles, and toss enemies around to their doom - or even out of the level completely. The idea is simple, but the implications for a Mario game are huge. Just like in the Portal games, the Portal device fires blue and orange portals that connect to each other across any distance. This time, however, Mario has a secret weapon: The almighty Portal gun. Luckily there’s an array of tokens, smash tiles, and special abilities to help you survive attacks from Bowser's henchmen and save Princess Peach. Similar to Super Mario Bros, it’s a mad hop, sprint, and Goomba-stomp through the colorful obstacles of Mushroom Kingdom. Combining the puzzle-solving of Portal with the traditional platforming of Mario is a match made in heaven. This game is easy to pick up, but difficult to master the exact sweet spot that many other indie games try so hard to accomplish. I don't think this has been implemented yet, (I couldn't get it to work on my game) but it looks promising.The concept of outfitting video gaming’s most famous plumber with his own Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device is not hard to wrap your head around. Here's an added bonus video showing dynamic split screen. It is available now for the PC, Linux, or OSX. Mari0 supports four player local co-op, and will soon support six player online co-op. Download it now before Nintendo or Valve squashes it! Mari0 is a fun distraction, and the price is right. What is it with gamers and digital hats? The online co-op is still a work in progress, so you'll have to bust out your gamepads and play locally, for the time being. You may also choose from a wide variety of hats. Did I mention that you can change the color of your character's clothing and portals to your liking? Well, you can. The following video shows six customizable Marios in action. Not only does the game support four player co-op, six player online co-op is on the way. The portals worked well and it's saturated with nostalgia. I have to say, it's a pretty good time, especially for a free download. I downloaded the game here and took it for a spin. with portal guns, user created content, a map editor, and four player local co-op.
